The unspoken misdemeanors, care to disclose what they are ? Your hesitancy to list them when you mentioned everything else shrouds the whole issue of his future.
If you don't care to disclose them on this board, you can PM me in confidence. We don't need any names or towns. But a state would be helpful in some circumstances.
Also, as was mentioned by Chief WIggum, 3 yrs of probation is a lot of time. Nor an amount handed down for a first time or petty offender unles they have a criminal history or it was a felony.

hmm , probation for 3 years for misdemeanors....interesting ( he had to agree to this , during a 'plea'). Interesting still, is how 'ducky' stated he had a history for this , as well as 'conspiracy' for theft , via other personnel. I would guess your 'boyfreinds' chances are slim to none, in the LE field there hun. The pysch will do him in.
'Morals' are instilled, not learned 'at will.'
Petit Larceny is a fancy name for theft. Theft=dishonest=unreliable. Sorry but that is the way it is looked regardless of the persons "now cleaned up act". I do not forsee him getting hired but I won't say dont try. There is always a chance, but not much of one.

Also, he needs to put a period of SEVERAL years between his application and any probation time. Around here, the maximum age to apply is either 32 or 35. Given that he's only 20, I would tell him to do something productive with his life for at least another 8 years (you said he's been clean for 2) before he applies. I would strongly suggest looking into the military. That way, he can say "More than 10 years ago I did these bad things, but I went into the military, cleaned up my act, and served without any criminal or discipline issues for XX years." That would make him look much more reliable in my opinion. It would also help him pay for the college education that he is considering.
Thanks, ill tell him about it.Originally Posted by phuzz01

Jenni,
When doing background investigations and later the formal interview, we look at several factors when it comes to a blemished background.
First, what exactly is the blemish. Obviously, an Aggravated Assault on a PO, a sexual assault, arson, etc. would be too much.
For less serious offenses, we look at what they were, how long ago they occurred, and what has the applicant done since then.
Your boyfriend should focus on filling his background up with so many positives that they will take away from his previous indiscretions. Examples would be volunteer work, joining associations, excelling in his current job, becoming involved in the community, excelling and holding office in associations, etc.
One thing is for sure. If he never tries, he definitely will not be accepted anywhere. Good luck.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they hall be called the sons of God.

thank you! I'll make sure he tries really hard and doesnt give up![]()
If this is all true, then he'll get in.
Probably not at 21, but eventually.
I say College, it weighs more on paper than the Military (at least in my experience).
Insert famous quote here
"Hello Jimmy, I'm Sergeant Smith, I'll be doing a portion of your background investigation."
"Nice to meet you Sergeant."
Now Jimmy, I see you have a prior arrest for petit larceny."
"Yes sir."
"And when was that?"
"Oh, years ago, I been real clean since then."
"Real clean. Interesting choice of words. Exactly when Jimmy?"
"When I was 17."
"And you are how old now?"
"Um, 32."
OK, I see. And you've never been in trouble since?"
"No, not much."
"Not much?"
"Yeah, you know, little stuff."
"Little stuff?"
"Tickets and stuff."
"Stuff?"
"Yeah. you know".
"You learned your lesson, from that larceny issue when you were 17?"
"Oh, heck yeah!"
OK, Jimmy. We'll look into this a bit more and get back to you."
"Allright."
"Jimmy?"
"Huh?"
"Can I have my pen back"?
"Ha ha, Oh sorry, yeah, ha ha."
"Yeah, sorry. OK Jimmy, good bye."
"Bye"
"Jimmy?"
"Huh?"
"My watch?"
"Oh, um, yeah. Here, sorry dude, ha ha."
"Right Jimmy."
<<buzz-buzz>>
"Reception"
"Carol? This is Smith on the 3rd floor."
"Hi hon, what can I do for you?"
"There's a guy in a black suit with red hair coming down."
"Uh huh"
"His name is Jimmy."
"OK"
"Do me a favor would you?"
"Sure"
"Tell him I want my tape recorder back."
