    Friendly with a Weapon?

Ever had a "friendly" person come to the door at their house with a weapon of some sort in their hand, unsure of who's really at the door?

This morning an officer that my roommate is friendly with (apparently) came a banging on the door just to chit-chat with him... But he wasnt home. So I got awoken at 9 by a heavy bang. I ask through the door "Who Is iT?" And he says the police. Just as im picking up my cell phone to call the pd's direct number, I heard his radio through the door, and recognized the callsign of dispatch, so i felt safe opening the door.
But I was thinking, some that arent so educated or whatever may open the door armed with a gun, knife, broomhandle, or whatever....
Have you ever had that? Just curious what you did.
If i Opened the door and had a broom stick and as soon as i saw you, threw it on the ground, would you still have me slamed to the ground or whatever? (This is of course a friendly type visit, not serving a warrent)

Why do you feel like everyone that comes to your door is there to kill you? I think you can answer your own question... your username leads me to belive you are an EMT... Would you appreciate responding to a call, where each person greeted you with a smile and a shotgun? Go see a therapist, and sell your guns.... You're dangerous.

Don't answer your door. Leave your phone number outside and ask them to call you instead.

no.....really?........now why would you want to install a device that would allow you to see who was at the door? :p ;)

I usually have my gun on me when I answer unexpected door knocks...Though on the flip side...I never open the door more than five inches, and check the peep hole first before I do. Maybe that sounds paranoid...but when you live in my neighborhood (sp) you never know what to expect.

Between this and the "shoot the Christian" thread, I'm starting to wonder if you're not just a tad *cough* paranoid.
Home Depot will sell you a peep hole for about $5. All you gotta do is drill a hole in the door and screw it in.

Yeah...I don't do Germans...But my Lab lives to do the same...I would just rather not put him in harms way.

I actually had a guy run down the walkway when my 100 pound GSD tried to get between me and the open door with his hackles up and that "I'll chew your nads" growl!
