    Hiring prevention

I just graduated from college with bachelors in Criminology. I am currently enrolled in grad school, but also considering to apply from police department, possibly reserves. Before the college I did 3 years active duty in the Navy and I am still in reserves(6th year is comming up.) But I have a problem - I screwed up and was convicted of DUI just when I came back to college about 2 years ago (yeah, I know adolesency is contagious thing, I guess.) Never had anything else and excelent credit(own the house.)
Should I even bother applying to PD or Sheriff's Dept? Or it will be one of those cases, when "it is great that you applied, but we looking from boyscout - see ya"
    Thank you for your advice

I think in Texas it is a 7 or 10 year disqualifer

I know a Deputy in California who got hired with a DUI after three years. I think monst departments around here set their own time reqirements. They vastly differ just like drug use policies.

5 years minimum set by POST in Utah. Nothing you can do until the 5 years are up. I know one officer who had to get court paperwork from a 14 year old DUI from another state before he was accepted into the academy.

PA only requires that you have completed all court ordered jail/probation/counseling or whatever. Having said that, realistically, it will be 3 to 5 yrs before any dept will show any interest.
