    Question Atlanta PD

I currently reside in Ohio, but am originally from the Great State of Michigan... Go Blue!!

I have long been interested in a career in law enforcement, and over the years have fallen in love with Atlanta.

I intend to apply to the Atlanta PD in the next few weeks, and hopefully relocate to the greater Atlanta area in the next couple of months, providing everything goes alright.

Are there any current/former APD officers on this board that might be able to help me answer some general questions, about procedure, policy, morale, advancement, and things of the like? What about other departments in the area that are also well respected... I'll probably live in Gwinnett County, if APD doesn't have a rule about officers living outside the city/county.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Atlanta PD is a good department; It was not when I retired. The police chief is a real police chief not like his predecessor when I was there. You might also check out COBB COUNTY PD. Cobb county is well managed and financially in good shape. Their police chief is an reired police major from Atlanta PD

Thanks, Zonestar..... I've been studying a lot about APD over the past few weeks, and really think this is where I'm going to push to go. I just read a huge plan of action from the Chief, and am confident that Chief Pennington and Mayor Franklin will be able to make a lot of new and exciting things happen. I can't wait to be a part of it....

Oh, jeez.... What else can I say? Interestingly, when I was transferring to Ohio, I sent out an email to all of my colleagues, and said the same thing...GO BLUE.... That invoked more response from my co-workers than any other email I'd sent, business related, that required immediate attention...

Anyhow.... I'm in Ohio State country now... I still proudly don my MICHIGAN hats and sweatshirts anytime I can.... I'm not very well liked in public!

I know a few APD officers and all I can say is, look what Pennington did for New Orleans. That used to be the most slimy, corrupt department in the country until he cleaned it up. The guys I know generally say, even though there are still problems (some pretty big), he has brought a sense of pride back to a department that was run by one of the most corrupt administrations ever to sit in City Hall.
And, even though I generally fancy myself a conservative type, Mayor Franklin telling the Governor to go get bent made me a HUGE fan of hers.

Thanks for the good words, sbrad.... I recognize that there are still many issues within APD, and am looking forward to being a part of the new and improved department in the near future. If you hear anything of great importance, let me know.... sbard, are you a deputy near Atlanta??

Look at your pm box. We went through this last week when you were asking questions about the area.
