If you use the handbrake on an inclide then you will never roll back. That's why stickshifts have hand-operated parking brakes... ;)
I've been driving for 12 years. Only 3 of those were driving automatic.

This is like another one of my crazy driving fears! I always leave enough room. In Michigan I believe vehicle #2 would have received the ticket though I am unsure.
My pickup is a stick and the e-brake is on the floor to the left of the clutch.
For those of you who said you would ticket # 2 or place 2 at fault, I would be interested to see or have a link directing us towards the law under which that decision would be made.
Just curious

How do you stop from rolling backwards on a hill? The e-brake on my maxima quit working and I certainly missed it for the week it took me to get the replacement parts.Originally Posted by Rhino
a buddy of mine had an old stick mustang. This is in one of the school's lots and even though his ebrake 'is' on, it rolls down the hill and hits three cars. I don't 'think' anything ever came of it. Don't know for sure though.

Well, don't drive the car if your brake doesn't work.Originally Posted by Scruit

I can drive it without rolling back and without riding the clutch - I just choose to use the e-brake because that is what I was taught in the UK both by the regular instructor and the police instructor when I did the IAM thing.
