    Question bankruptcy

How does being in chapter 13 bankruptcy affect becoming a cop. I have applied for one city and was declined only because of my chapter 13 bankruptcy. They said that have to be discharged for 2 years if this is the case for everywhere that will not be until 2008, just started a year ago. Really would like to know if all areas are like this. Thanks for any replies.

Financial responsibility is a big deal. You will likely have to wait, unfortunately. If that is your only hang-up, then build some credit for the next couple years.

2 years from now is only 2006, unless I am missing something...

Your other option is to contact other agencies, as each one has differing hiring practices. Good luck.

I think he means that he filed last year, and chapter 13 is a three year program. Then it's dicharged, then he would have to wait the following two years.

Bankruptcy does NOT look good on an LE app. It shows (typically) financial irresponsibility. Not that it is always true as some people get knoocked off of their feet from med bills but the underlying reason doesn't really matter. Either you did or you didn't.
