WOW , 200 bucks and 4 points, here in ONTARIO an officer probably wouldnt even issue a ticket for 10 over, thats unreal, guess thats why are taxes are so high LOL, we need to raise out tickets to that, if u did get a ticket for ten over here it would be like 40 bucks no points

Oh, I love SC...don't get me wrong. Moving from a big city to a smaller town is a culture shock almost.

No, I wasn't in a work zone. No road construction work whatsoever. I wasn't reckless at all. I had my 18 mo old in the back.

I guess I need to move to Ontario. Forty bucks is a bargin compared to my fine.

Here in Ontario I don't think they bother with 10 over. If a sign says 50,everyone is doing 60-65. On highways 100-115 is norm. Posted limit is 90kmph,however people get real pissed at you if you are doing speed limit
My mother just got her G2 licence and I was with her in the car to show her how to use highways the other day. She was doing 90 in the slow lane, following speed limit. Some people as they pass would knock on their head or shake it showing how stupid we are :D

So 90 kmh is about 55 mph. You have to remember that the U.S. still doesn't use the metric system and most of us have no idea what a kilometer is. ;)

A Joke, and NJ Points and Fines.

You didn't try to tell the cop that you 'pay his salary' did you?
    Citizen: "I pay your salary!"
    Officer: "Oh yeah?"
    Citizen: "Yeah!"
Officer: "Well, in that case, how 'bout giving me a raise!"

    In New Jersey:
    POINTS
    • 1-14 mph: 2 points
    • 15-29 mph: 4 points
    • 30 mph or more: 5 points

    FINES
    • 1-9 MPH $81 SC/CZ: $136
    • 10-14 MPH $91 SC/CZ/65Z: 10-14 MPH $156
    • 15-19 MPH $101 SC/CZ/65Z: $176
    • 20-24 MPH $196
    • 25-29 MPH $216
    • 30-34 MPH $236
    • 35-39 MPH $256

    NOTES:
    • SC = "Safe Corridor"
    • CZ = Construction Zone
    • 65Z = 65MPH zone (highest speed allowed in state)
    • Exceeding the posted speed limit by 40 MPH or more requires a court appearance.
    • Exceeding the posted speed limit by 20 MPH or more in a SC/CZ requires a court appearance.
    • All fines are DOUBLED for exceeding the limit by 20 MPH or more.

    Some serious money, folks

On my scanner, sometimes I hear one of the local PDs with their radar detail. The officer with the radar is usually standing on a bridge where the oncoming traffic below has no clue that they're getting clocked for speed.

    Here's how it works:

The officer clocks them and then calls out on the radio the color/make of the car and the speed. The limit is 55 MPH. The call sounds something like this:

"Fast lane, blue Ford pickup truck, 80"

That there pickup truck's driver will be paying some serious bucks for 25 mph over the limit!

State law here (NJ) is that if a driver is not licensed, has a suspended/revoked license, or a vehicle is not registered and/or is uninsured, the vehicle is towed away on the spot and impounded. That's after the citations for no license, etc. Then there's the fee to have the vehicle released to a licensed driver or if it's not registered/insured, then after proof of registration and/or insurance.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt or ya pay some more.

I'm all for it. The issue is safety...mine and yours.

(The $200 ticket and points for 10 mph over does seem harsh. I love it when the cops catch one of these nit-wits doing 75 and swerving all over the place without a turn signal, etc.)

I'd try the defensive driving thing first, if you can... My sister got popped in St. Joseph County, Michigan for doing 96 in a 55... She should have gone to jail, but the cop must have been in a good mood... She ended up getting driving school, no fine, no points... I think she had to pay for the school though... I can't remember, but it's better than the points and the HUGE hike in insurance rates...

    Big Bux

Here is a partial sampling of the speeders zapped today via radar.

    In a 55MPH zone:

    79, 75, 84, 87, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 92, 84, 94, 83, 76, 77, 83, 77, 95, 92, 75, 80, 77, 78, 83, 77, 79, 77.

Using the fines/points listed above, it seems there were some very unhappy drivers today

The local PD made some nice $$ today... (or wherever the $ goes...)
