Why is this illegal? Should they have called it a raffle instead?
When Wayne County police busted an illegal lottery run out of a person's home, they discovered more than $2 million in cash.
Investigators tell Action News that they have never seen anything like it.
Last month police busted a lottery-style gambling ring. Today, they issued arrest warrants for six people, among them, five family members, suspected of running the ring.
Sheriff’s deputies seized stacks and stacks of cash, totaling $2.2 million, in what they call the biggest lottery-style gambling ring they have ever seen.
According to Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans, one family spanning three generations ran the illegal gambling ring in Detroit and Oak Park.
Investigators say the black-market bookies ran an operation identical to the legal Michigan State Lottery, with midday and evening drawings that paid out winnings based on the same three and four-digit numbers.
It also appears that the illegal, untaxed business operation paid a substantially increased premium over the Michigan Lottery.
Investigators expect all six suspects to turn themselves in today. If the investigators get a conviction in the case, they can keep the $2.2 million that they’ve seized to fight crime.

I haven't a clue as to what the last part means either.
