    Imigration survey

    Hello all.
My name is Surveystudent (anonymous for a reason) and I'm attending a university. I'm doing a research paper on illegal immigrants and crime. My exact thesis is:

A number of illegal immigrants are committing crime, and due to the fact that they are undocumented, there is no way of tracking the most serious offenders. Thus, this lack of documentation is putting our citizens and law enforcement community in danger.

I know a lot of people will disagree but the basis for my argument is my wife is a state trooper. She comes home at least twice a month and tells me about apprehending another illegal for DWI. Due to the fact that there is no serious documentation for illegals (consularry cards don’t count) the person she pulls over might be anything from a murder to a hard working immigrant just trying to support his family. The illegal can give any name under the sun and unless she has arrested him before (which has happened) she will never be the wiser. This places her and her brothers and sisters in the law enforcement field in danger. I know murderers don’t usually hand over ID cards but when someone fails to ID, does that not usually put an officer on their toes for the rest of the stop.

On the part of placing our citizens in danger; there are repeat offenders out on the street that have 5-6 even more DWI's under their belt and due to no documentation it isn’t possible to keep record especially when the said person can just give another bogus name. Just imagine someone going out every weekend with a blood alcohol content of .20 and driving next to you mother, daughter, sister, brother, etc. This is happening and my wife is a witness. The current policy is that they pay the fine and they are released.

I don’t want to start any arguments in the survey. Please keep arguments in the forum and I will read responses daily. Due to my time restrictions, I will not have time to respond to arguments with my thesis. I will post my final paper if requested and debate it once I’m finished. Here's what I'm asking from you. I will post a survey for police and state troopers only. Please answer it honestly. Your name WILL NOT BE RECORDED for any reason what so ever.
Please pass the letter on to as many people as possible as I need 35-50 responses in total. Any questions can be emailed to me at surveystudent@hushmail.com
    Thanks for your time.

Illegals are involved mainly in thefts, domestics and drug/alcohol offenses. Not a lot different from the citizenry really.

I am not comfortable when a person has no ID and has NO supporting documents as to their ID AND I run them through and they come back as no record for a drivers license. I advise such persons that they will be with me until I establish their identity.
This mainly happens beacuse the person is suspended or has warrants and doesn't want to go to jail.

We can't do much to prevent illegals frmo committing crime, we hopefully do what we can to prevent ANYONE from committing a crime.

The INS has NEVER been interested in any illegals that we have arrested. I have called them and they didn't seem to care.

    Not that I know of.

    Politics.

We can't do much to change. We deal with them like anybody else.

Illegals that commit crimes should be held accountable for their crimes and should be made to adhere to immigration policies or locked up/deported.

When I run a hispanic name on my MDC, I typically will get some kind of NCIC hit on a hispanic with MANY names, DOB's, SSN's etc. Short of fingerprinting every one, it will be difficult to determine who everyone is. We do print all Misd and felony arrrests though.

My suggestion is that if they are illegal, they should be taken into custody and dealt with under INS rules. I am aware that INS has some poor policies of leting these people wander off into society with a "promise" that they will return for a hearing.

Tighter border and immigration policies would help.
