Do any of you LEOs work in an area that is a total ghetto? Are you allowed to carry submachine guns or powerful rifles/shotguns if you're assigned to a ghetto area? Are there ghetto areas that police dare not even go near in your jurisdiction?

Just what is your defination of a Ghetto??????

Most if not all police departments have shotguns, or some sort of rifle's in their patrol cars. And no there are no areas of anytown that the police will not go to. That is their job to protect people and to try to solve problems. Just because a area is Ghetto don't mean the police don't handle radio calls there. But I asked above "what is your defination of Ghetto?"

Where people start throwing pots and pans at your car when you drive by. Or maybe where there are 10 year old kids standing on the street corner smoking weed. Or where people walk the streets with handguns and knives holstered to their side. I think you know what a ghetto is; I dare you to go to some of the communities in L.A. or D.C. and walk around. If you're scared to do that, it's a ghetto.

First off I will adress this before my boy DC gives his comment on this.

10 year old kids smoking weed on the corner????? Thats a half truthed lame brained statement. Never have I ever seen, nor heard of a group of 10 year olds smoking weed anywhere much less on a corner. Where I live everyone carries a gun or knife strapped to them lot of hunters and stuff in my hills son. Just because someone throws pots at your car don't define it as a ghetto. Also just because someone is scared to walk in a neighborhood don't mean its a ghetto either. I have been to LA, and Miami and I live 60 miles from Flint and Detroit. Detroit has the highest murder of any city so far this year. They have surpassed the 125 mark as of last night. They average 15-30 shootings a week. That includes murders, injuries and cases where noone was hit. A true ghetto is a place that is so poor and rundown that no one wants to be there or wants to experience the lifestyle that the people that live there have. It also is a place that can either be violent, scary or just plain sad to be in or around. Just high-crime, and scary mean squat. Ghetto is a slang term and most people use it liberally thinking they know the meaning when in reality they know nothing. One thign that is also a myth is that all ghetto's are predominatly black hoods. False, I know of some areas in my county that are ghetto and they are white hoods where the homes arfe bad shape and welfare is something that is so common it's like running tap water, meanign its in everyhome. Does it make them all bad??? NO WAY IN HELL. I do not give 2 rips if you were serious or not, I am giving my opinion and I didn't know what you mean by ghetto. Do not assume anything with me cause I want a straight answer with clear definations. I do not accept yeah or yep, I want to hear the word YES. I will not take na, nope, na ah I want to hear you say NO. Be clear and state your reason, case and defination of the word and you will get a honest and clear answer. If you do not like it then OH WELL.

As one who works in DC daily, I have to ask...What movies do you watch that give you the impression that any of that stuff goes on? It ain't like that anywhere in America as far as I know.

And there's no area in or around the city that I won't go. I just make sure that I've got enough back-up close by before I start dealing with folks in some areas. It's all about common sense and people skills and that's all you need.

detroit is like that, my aunt lives down in brightmore projects and every other house is burnt down, they have been held up in their own house at gun point 3 times. Their van has bullet holes in it, people get shot down there daily. 3 last weekend actually were in the brightmore area i think. But ya that is ghetto even worse then i have seen on some tv.

I work in the burbs' and I carry a M-16, Remington 870 and my Glock. We may not have a "ghetto" out here but PA does have a very HIGH percentage of hunters who coincidentally tend to have a bunch of guns. Some of them drink too much ....you can figure out the rest.

I'll correct myself, it is an AR-15. I just have an age old habit of calling them an M-16 as some persons may not recognize what an AR is while most everyone knows an M-16. We used to have full auto Mini-14's but full auto just isnt good for much but wasting ammo.

Detroit's not that bad. I used to live and work there, and I know Brightmoor real well. It's not a housing project--it's a neighborhood on the NW side. Most of the people living there own those homes outright. "Projects" are government-built, rent-subsidized apartments like the Jeffries Projects south of Wayne State. Brightmoor's not one of those and it's not that bad crime-wise other than for burglaries and street sales of dope and prostitution on Fenkell. ("Massages" are reportedly cheap there too.) The burglary rate's high but the shooting rate is relatively low over there there. And in Detroit on the whole, it's not random shootings of innocent people but dope boys shooting each other. Yes, every now and again they hit the wrong people, but for the most part the violence is perpetrated by and directed at a relatively small and defined demographic group--young male drug dealers.
Nowhere in Detroit do they throw things at the police, carry guns openly, or do 10 year olds smoke weed on the street corners. It doesn't happen.

ya ive never seen that stuff happen except on movies, I checked some stuff out online and it said brighmoor projects thats why i assumed it was. Well it is pretty damn bad from when ive been over there with the houses and bullet holes, all of that, people out there have plastic tarp as rooves, lol.
