    Question Reserves and another Question

I was thinking about joining the Airforce reserves but will a police department hire some one who is already enlisted in the reserves? Here's my other question. I want to be a cop and Im still in high school I have been involved in things that my school offered dealing with law enforcement but those things have now been cut by the state of Newyork. So I have called my county police department and asked if they allow interns their they said no because they have college students who pay to be interns their and they told me to call my village police department. So I did yesterday and the officer told me that he didnt know and to call back during business hours and speak to the cheif secretary(I didnt know their were business hours at a police station) so today I called them and spoke to another officer and before I could ask for the cheif secretary he told me they didnt. So is this true that police departments dont allow interns?

    Thankyou for your time.

Some agencies will hire reservists, others will bend over backwards to not hire you.
Agencies have business hours in that the admin and clerical staff tends to work days.

Although no department will advertise that they will not hire persons who are in the reserves ( illegal to do so ) , you could understand ANY employer's reluctance to hire a person for a critical position who could be yanked away for a year or more at a time and then have to hold their job open.

A local PD near me may loose their only Sgt as he is looking to be activated for a year or so. They will be hurting if they loose him having only 7 officers anyway. They can't just call Manpower for a repplacement.

I was active duty for 4 yrs and then went in the Air Nat'l Guard for 3 yrs. I got hired while still in the Guard ( March) but my enlistment was up in April and I didn't re-enlist. Too much hassle being in the police academy and starting out on 3 rd shift etc.
