They only turn it off when they illegally search your car! How do you know it was searched illegally, who did you receive your law degree from? This is waaay to vague to be answered in ANY way!!
Astronomical avatar of the week: The Hourglass Nebula: This formation of gasses was created when a dying star gently ejected its outer layers forming a glowing region of ionized gas as seen in the photo. The remaining core is known as a white dwarf, seen in the center. Our sun will leave a similar corpse behind after expending its nuclear fuel. This nebula is located in the constellation Musca, the fly, visible only in the southern hemisphere.
most tapes don't roll unless the emergency lights are activated.

go away dc. you aren't doing anything but trolling with crap like that. Statement stands, if you can flip it on manually great, it adds to what I said. There something constructive from that post.
The words I hear direct from a cops mouth will mean more to me than ANYTHING you say. Maybe next time I'll add the disclaimer, from the southern states, and Ohio (got this info from knowing the Cincinating beating of the large guy and the 90 or so seconds 'missing' was because the cop turned off his lights, and later went to turn them back on because he thought trouble was coming), the tape rolls when the emergency equipment is activated, and I'm now corrected into saying you can flip it on manually.

To answer your question lowlife, the cameras are installed to record the procedings of a traffic stop. Hope this helps! :D
I can't help but laugh at people like this guy. I may be wrong to presume but I think this story falls under the " I didn't do anything and three cops threw me to the ground " category.
I've got two switches in the car that will turn mine on, and I can flip the switch on my body mic on and it will come on. The blue lights don't do it for me. And I use mine for way more than just traffic stops. Even if the camera isn't pointing in the right direction, it's good to have audio.
there is a switch on your mic? that's interesting. special thing, or standard on what brand equipment?

No, I have a belt pack that the mic plugs in to that transmits back to the camera. The switch is on there.Originally Posted by ngcsubutterbar

" I've got a friend who..." answers should in all fairness and accuracy be pre-ceded by those words for our non LE opsters.

Just because they have a recorder in the car doesn't mean its always on. Ours are always on the fritz.
I also have an eenie teenie weenie little switch on the side of the unit that, when flipped, turns the monitor off and turns a back seat mic on. Now that's handy.
You a cop, sbrad?
I've seen a bunch of cruisers around here with single small orange light behind the grille, and sometimes a similar light up on the windshild, forward of the rear-view mirror. Is that a signal to the officer to confirm that the camera is running during a traffic stop?
I was sitting in traffic watching a Deputy directing traffic through construction and I saw his cruiser parked off to the side of the road with it's emergency lights running. It was pointing at where he was standing, and if the camera was running then it would catch anyone violating his directions. Is it a recognized practice in your juristiction to use the cameras in that way? It woudl eat up a lot of tape, and the deputey who is directing at this intersection/construction on any given day is there during the whole evening rush hour, about 2 hours.
My camera system is set up to come on whenever the overheads are activated. Also,I can turn it on at any time using a switch on my body mike.
Lead me not into temptation.......someone talks me into enough sh!t as it is. .
