I can see the insurance report now:

    Cause of accident:
Was proceeding eastbound on Route 5 and my beard fell off. I look ed down to retrieve it and drove into a tree.

    Ummmm...
My car si knind of low to the ground and my front plate has been through hell and was bent from the bottom third up. A couple of weeks ago a LEO drove pass me on the oppisite side of the road, it was night. he turned on his lights and pulled a u turn and quickly got behind me then turned around again as soon as he saw my 2005 registration tags.
My front plate is now straight.

I have both my front & rear plate on my truck. And I live in texas. I know its required to have a front plate on your vehicle. Although I heard thru the rumor mill (taking this with a grain of salt), that if there is no place to mount your front plate & mounting it would decrease the value of the car. Such as mounting a plate to a collectors car such as a ferarri, or something to that nature you are exempt from mounting it. Dunno if this is true though.

In Illinois the was some legislation, that if passed would allow Corvette owners to go without the required front plate. I doubt it will go through; how can you tell the owner of a Corvette he dosen't have to have a front plate but then force a Camero owner to have a front plate?

This is being more closely enforced a lot due to the red light cameras installed that take the photo of your front license plate and the driver. Vehicles without the front plate are not being identified, hence the push for enforcement. Many of the red light cameras are now set up to take the front and rear, but my city has pushed enforcement of the 5200 CVC, 2 plates required, largely for this reason.

Front license plate= identification of the vehicle, particularly approaching vehicles. It beats having to swing around a vehicle to grab a plate number.

texas requires both front and back plates. the word "texas" also has to fully show on the plate...meaning something like a plate holder from wherever you bought the car can't cover it up.
the plate thing, i can understand. but the word texas showing? come on. the holders never fully cover up the word and if you can't get texas out of 7/8 of the letters showing, you have a problem. lol. that law just went into effect in september too..and people still don't know about it either. i only know cause i work at an auto auction and we have to remove all the plate holders from the zillions of cars we have. lol.
