    Does that work pretty good?
For my pocket pc to the car, I get about 25ft with the bluetooth.
I like it, I have been using it for about 4 months now. Set a freind of mine up with it too. Have all my more common MV laws in it, along with the entire inspection manual.

I also use a palm pilot to keep my own "records" on people I deal with. I have a great little SFST program that records all pertinent info. I also have a LE oriented database that allows me to enter calls for service and person info. I pretty much just use that for entering the name and DOB of our "regular customers" so that I can just look them up on the palm, then run them on the laptop to see if there are any warrants or if their license is valid.
No, you've got the wrong number. This is 9-1....2.

Thanks for all the input. I guess it is a personal opinion that each person would make. I think the tool would be valuable because there is no way to remember many people one or two years later, but a simple jog of your memory may make you handle them a little differently. Excel programs can very easily be passworded which would make the file inaccessible to anyone other than yourself unless someone wanted to spend time to crack your password, but then it wouldn't matter which program you were using if they are determined. Also, the files wouldn't contain anything that isn't put out over the air anyway. So I guess it would simply be a high-tech notebook that a quick search of a name or DOB could give you information specific to dealings you've had with people and if you keep the file private then no harm.

An officer at my PD who got into trouble for NOT making enough notes, does this. She has Word on the MDC and now types in her own log as she goes.

There is no legal issue maintaining your own database on people. The only issue you may run into is if it is for gangs only. We have had case law concerning gangs that requires deletion of the contact record if there was no subsequent contact within that two yrs. where gang affiliation was identified.

The way around this is to not have a file of gang members only.........just do it for the dirt bags as a whole.
