    Questions on police procedure

I am a first time writer. I am writing a crime/mystery novel. I am also a student of Criminal Justice so I have some knowledge on police procedure. I need information on homicide procedures. Does a writer need permission to use local police departments in the book? (Person's names fictional of course). Any advice would be helpful.

I wouldnt think you would need permission to use the PD's name. But I may be wrong. I do see a lot of Video Games and Movies whos main characters are US Navy SEALs or Army Rangers etc... get confirmation from the DoD. So it would probably be in your best interest to clear it with the PD.
