    Physically Fit

Lets say you passed the NYPD exam and the score was average. If I am in good physical condition will that help my chances of making the academy? I am a rugby player and have played semi-pro in New Zealand so I am in pretty good shape.

Good physical fitness is always an attribute. I can't say for NYPD and we only have a pass fail test but it could make an impression that ," oh yeah, here is the guy who is in great shape" during an interview.

I honestly don't know what scores more points with NYPD versas what an average person may do who also applies with the department. BUT,...I suspect it would be safe to say that most departments look at an applicant from a overall standpoint. Their overall qualifications, testing results, etc. So, my thought it that you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket with the hopes that your physical conditioning will equate to the likelyhood that you'll get a green light to the academy. ;)

Bottom line in my book is it depends upon your overall qualifications...BUT, someone who may be here that IS an NYPD officer might be able to shed more definite light on this issue.
