    Cop

Ok, Well I haven't graduated High School yet, but soon as I do am either going to Military, or straight to college and getting a degree, then going to be a local sheriff... Ok, I'm curious what job in the military would make the local sheriff department want me more... I was thinking infantry, but if anyone knows what job in the US Army would make the local police department want you..

No job in the military will make a police department want you more.

You need to think about a job this is right for you. If you are solely interested in law enforement, try their security force. Maybe you can get into K-9s.

If computers are of interest, get into them.

The experience of being in the military is going to be to your advantage more than any particular job.

IMO - I would go straight to college and then after college if you still desire to work in the Law Enforcement field, then find out what the Sheriff at the County YOUR wanting to work at looks for in a Deputy. Every Sheriff is different. If I had it to do over again, which I still might do as I'm not that ancient yet, I would not have went the CJ route for a degree - it's nice to have other options open. As for joining the military, don't do it unless it is something you really want to do or you will be miserable. If you do join, then try to get your college education while serving. It's not as easy now adays with the War on Terrorism and constant deployments but if there is a will, there is a way. Best of luck...............
Go ahead and run.....my k-9 partner loves the exercise

My time in the military gave me veterans preference points ( 10 ) added to my score at hiring which certainly helped. The military can be a GREAT place to learn responsibility, to be able to work with others under stressfull conditions, to be able to take orders without giving dumb looks and to look sharp.

Sure basic is not a frat party but time spent in the military sure is appealing to a police department.

USAF Security Police 1978-82. I went in while I was still 17. I didn't want to go to college but didn't want to be the head french fry maker at McDonald's either.

If i were you i would go to college, get my degree, and join rotc. graduating rotc and becoming a commissioned officer in the army is a very respectful posistion. it shows that you have leadership skills which definately can't hurt you in a job interview. plus you get monthly steifens and financial aid for school. i think its a good deal.
