    How beneficial would it be..

to pay your own way through the academy via a POST certified school? I know I posted a topic similar to this awhile back. Since then I have checked into some academies in the area. The typical cost is around 4000 give or take. So now I am just wondering If i should go ahead and do it or just keep applying and do it the usual way. would this make is much easier, of course considering they accept the POST's certificate....

It is 3 years in Calif. After that, you can get requalified, but most departments don't accept that.

yup, GA is one. Although, since all you need is 20 hrs of retraining a year to stay certified, and you don't need that at GAPOST, I 'guess' you could also maybe pay your way through those 20 hrs to. Not sure on it, but I don't see a reason why it 'could not' happen.
