    Working for a school district

I was wondering is there anyone on here that works or has worked for a school district before as a officer. What kind of training do they get and how is their academy? Is it a good way to get my feet in the door if I'm not able to get hired to a city or county department. What were your experiences with working for a school district.

First I am not a cop, but I know that the LA School Police goes to one of the PD/Sheriffs academy (whichever one is starting the soonest). They are POST certified with State wide police powers. They are the 3rd largest LE agency in LA County. They also cover a very large area, the LAUSD is massive. The chief does not limit what they do when on patrol. They are cops first and foremost - they backup the LAPD, LASD, Torrance PD, Inglewood PD etc etc. They have a SWAT team, too.

Here is a link to there website.

i used to work for a school district police department. our training was top notch. we covered 114 square miles and 26 schools. we had patrol, traffic, SROs, etc. i worked shootings, stabbings, a LOT of dope cases, rapes, burglaries, you name it. we had full jurisdiction in our area. by state law, we also had mobile jurisdiction. any property in the state of texas that was rented, leased, or otherwise utilized by the school, we had jurisdiction on that property and the surrounding streets.

we used to make dope busts at the school and then follow up on them and sometimes we'd get search warrants to raid a house. it's a regular PD, just a different way you go about it.

if you have more questions, ask.
