    Lapd

I'm planning on starting off at Bergen County Police in New Jersey. And after a few years hopefully make it on the SWAT team however they only have a part time team and no action ever happens by us. I'm wandering if anyone knows how much an LAPD officer starts off with being paid. Also the average for a SWAT member if there is a different pay level for them i dont know. thank you. Also if anyone has information concerning the same question about Miami Police and Miami SWAT. i'd greatly appreciate it.

    Well...

New officers with No College start at $47,711
New officers with Associates Degree start at $49,632
New officers with a BA/BS start at $51,574

They offer no shift pay and give $850/year for uniforms

I however can not find if or how much they pay for SWAT team duity. Normally its between 2 and 5 percent if your assigned to a special area of focus.

I am also just starting down the road to becoming a LEO. I would very much like to move to CA but I think it is pretty hard to do a lateral move from another state to CA. All of the PDs in CA I have looked into require that POs applying for lateral moves were trained in a POST certified academy. If I'm not mistaken POST is a CA thing.

Well, every state has their POST commission, though it might have a different name. It's the commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training her in CA. It IS possible to get a POST waiver for some states coming into CA, but you still have to attend a mini academy to familiarize yourself with CA laws. check out post.ca.gov, and you should be able to find more info there.

    Greetings:

All SWAT officers are part of Metropolitian division. As such, they are the "two stripe" rank of P3 or 3+1. Therefore they receive 5.5% above a police officers rate of pay. They also receive 2.5% field bonus (being a uniformed assignment); and, 5% hazard pay. Finally, at top step, with all of the bonus pay their base annual salary is in excss of 70K.

Most states have POST which stands for Peace Officer Standards and Training, and you can laterally transfer most times with a reduced academy from state to state. There are some states that don't have POST, but they get fewer by the day.

    Hey Utlovman,

Are you sure about the pay for new officers with college? According to the LAPD website, it doesn't matter if you have an actual degree or 60 semeter credit hours. The pay is $49k plus with 60 hours or an associates degee. The distinction is only at a BS/BA degree. Just wondering...

Also, does anyone know if LAPD supplies uniforms or do you have to buy them yourself?

    Thanks!

I would pretty much guarantee that LAPD purchases your uniforms for you.

I cant tell you much about the pay but MDPD SRT is a full time position. I think LAPD, although WELL RESPECTED, might not be full time. I was told that they work on other specialized units until called. When not on a call, MDPD SRT members spend their time training (shooting, swiming, running, lifting).

MDPD pays for everything except the firearm. Right now the approved firearm is the Sig .9mm 226.

    Best of luck
