Before this I was in the miltary so I was gone alot and I did military police work also. So as of now its basically all i know how to do. Being away from home wont be a argument because nothing can top the military. This isnt a new thing I have mentioned it to her before a couple times toward the end of my service but I dont think she thought I was going to try out for it. She did say a few times when i mentioned it the same thing. "I dont want to have to worry etc etc". But i dont really get it becasue I spent about a year and a half in the mid east.

I agree TV has blown everything way out of proportion! Like you said they always show the negative. I told her to let me take the test and we will talk while we wait. She said there is nothing that will change her mind. But I have also thought of altenative jobs like border patrol or other law enforcement type jobs and she doesnt care if i have one of those as long as I dont have to travel.

I think her perception is based on the area we live in. Its not the scumbag hole of the city but it does have more thugs than the avergage. And also the recent police shootings here in L.A. might have alot to do with it.

If you want to take my city for example, the police department has about 1200 sworn officers, there has been one officer fatality while on duty in the past 25 or 26 years. There are far more deaths in other lines of business. I am not saying being a cop would be totally safe, but it is a risk that has to be accepted.

I wish you luck in the pursuit of your goal. Hopefully you and your wife can come up with the solution that suits the both of you the best.

Marriage is all about compromise. If your wife wanted to be a stripper you would support her 100%? I doubt I would still be married after 24 years with an attitude like that.

I understand that she is worried about you, but she also should realize that she shouldn't hold you back from your dreams. This is a realistic goal, and one that you might regret if you don't go after it because of her. I hope she can find a way to support you, and you two can talk through her concerns.

Maybe you can suggest her doing a ridealong so she can see it is not all like the movies?
