The paper tag is considered your temporary registration. It has an expiration date on it. They are usually good for 90 days and at some point during that time PennDOT will send you a registration card (use the pink slip until then if you are stopped or in an accident) and the plate sticker to put in the TOP LEFT HAND CORNER of the plate. You will likely have the sticker within a month. I like to bash PennDOT but they are pretty good with updating records and such. Chances are I could run your plate in a week or two and an expiration would be shown, probably 7/2013...
