    cop messed up my car

About a month ago I got pulled over on my way back from visiting some friends at my old school and got a speeding ticked for 70 in a 55. I was speeding and accept those charges. When he pulled me over he asked me for the usual stuff and then told me to shut the car off and come to his car. I said ok and followed him back after shutting it off. He then wrote me a ticket for speeding. Then when he told me i could go he walked me up to my car and I informed him that my car's starter was bad and that i would have to push start it, (no problem, I did it all the time, its a civic stick) he told me that he had a push bumper on his car and that he could just start it like that. I said ok and he pushed me and i was off. When i got home i noticed that my bumper was hanging half way off. What can i do? He implied that his "push bumper" wouldn't hurt my car and it did. I'm not worried about the ticked because i deserved it, but I am about my bumper. What should i do?

He didn't have you sign the waiver?

We have a waiver that must be signed before we can use the pushbars.

Go and buy the $0.49 tabs that hold the bumper on to the sheet metal and get over it... The same thing happenned to my car, takes 10 minutes to fix. A lot less time and money than pursuing legal avenues (lawsuit) against the department or the officer.

My thoughts exactly. Believability kind of decreases with time.

Spend the money on a junkyard starter and look for a bumper while you are there.

Sue the officer, the department, the city, county and state, the makers of the starter, the makers of the bumper, the makers who attach the bumper to the car, the vehicle manufaturer, the department of transportation, the highway department, the makers of the concrete of the highway, your old friends for having to visit them because this wouldn't of happened if you didn't see them, etc.

You asked for the push start... Sorry.

Sounds like an easy fix, though. And get a new starter.

btw, those push bumpers are designed to keep the car they're attached to less damaged, not the cars they come in contact with.

Yes sue everyone! Sorry my friend, the cop was acting in good faith and helped you out. Nothing is perfect. Would you sue me if I helped you change your tire and then you got another flat? Or would you sue me if I attempted CPR on your mother but it didn't work and she died anyway? I guess it sometimes doesn't pay to help out or get involved.

See and people wonder why the police won't help them open their locked doors or give them a push...He could have probably given you a ticket for faulty equipment or something...driving and unsafe vehicle...hell I don't know.

Our school Police still do help out...but they make you sign this little waiver first...accidents happen. I personally choose to rent companies that I can sue for damage...or those that are just in service to provide those types of services.
