    application status w/ other PDs

Why do they always ask on the application if you've applied to any other PDs and to list their name and status of your application. Can they call the other PD? Wouldn't that violate their privacy policy to be sharing your employment process and application history?

If we were looking at you for hiring and knew that another dept was also checking you out, we would want to "compare notes" with them. Possibly they found out background info on you that we missed. If it amounts to a DQ issue, we will stop the BI and move on to another person.

We of course would reciprocate if another dept called us.

It may also be that since you are applying to many places, that particular one is not your first choice. Hypothetically, you're hired at Job #1, go through academy paid by them and then FTO training. Then you get a call from one of the other places which was your dream job. You say see ya later to Job #1 and the dream job accepts you with open arms because they don't have to pay for your academy training.

Won't most departments want you to sign a waiver that states something to the effect of "[You] pay X amount of dollars if you quit the department before Y amount of months or years", since they sponsered your academy/training ?

I am not sure, the one I work at does but that doesn't stop anyone normally. I didn't know that was something other dept's did.

The better paying dept's don't need to have anyone sign a waiver of reimbursement. The small ones I know of have a 3 yr decreasing payoff amount for someone who they would send through the academy and then they quit to come work for us.

My dept has had ONE person leave prior to retirement ( he became a chief elsewhere) in the 18 yrs that I have been there. We currently have 46 officers.

What if other factors (e.g., policies and administration, working conditions, interpersonal relationships, opportunity for advancement, etc) were not acceptable?
