Graduated the academy when I was 21. I applied to about 10 departments. I ended up getting hired as a reserve officer by the first department I applied to, months later. I got a LOT of "thanks but no thanks" letters. I was certifiable, but zero experiance.

I ended up leaving that department after nearly 2 years later to go work for the dept I work for now. Only it was in the jail.

Some people get hired their first try, then there are those of us that have to work at it.

I was 34 years old and was hired while I was in the academy.

Cool to retire. We can retire 3/50. The max retirement is 90%. We can retire if we have more than 20 years on, but cannot receive any actual retirement money until the age of 50. I guess you have a better union.
