Question Can a police officer do that?

Hello, Please help me out here.

In a state of Arizona, a police officer pulled over a man. The man told the officer that he is carrying a firearm. Police officer takes the gun, runs the drivers license and tells the man he is a prohibited possessor. The man does NOT think he is a prohibited possessor. Can a police officer really check that on the patrol car computer?

    Thanks.

I for some reason thought that a police officer does not check if a man would be a prohibited possessor, and even if he wanted to check he could not.

Well maybe it is different in AZ. Since my friend told me that he was not a prohibited possessor.

I think I've read on here before that AZ doesnt issue concealed weapons permits, but the officer can still check to make sure the person can possess a firearm legally. Here I would need to give the person's name to dispatch via radio and they would check, our in-car system doesn't check concealed weapons permits of criminal histories

The question does not make much sense. You ask if an officer can do that while telling us that an officer did do that.

Yes, Arizona officers can check CCH via NCIC to see if someone is a prohibited possessor.

The officer said he did but that does not mean he really did it. I just heard that an officer cannot check on that. That is why I asked.

So you're more apt to believe word of mouth from some random person than the officer who actually did it? Why is it the public seems to think we are so stupid?

How would the law be enforced, if there were no way to actually check?

Some of the reasons that will prohibit someone for possessing a firearm would come up during a routine NCIC check, which is definitely accessible to any officer in the country, and most cops can do the check on the laptop in their cruiser.

Also criminal records (which contain info indicating a person is prohibited) are, for the most part, equally as accessible to officers.
