I am looking for information on All Points Bulletins.

Hello, I am curious about the All Points Bulletin. I understand the essentials, though I was curious as to what hoops one may have to jump through in order to have one issued.

Can a solitary officer issue an APB? Or must it be approved?

    Thank you.

We don't actually use that term here.

If an officer is working a case and has suspect information (or a description of a missing person, etc.) then (s)he can have dispatch relay that information to surrounding municipalities on the radio. We can further fax/email dispatch information for teletypes to all local/state agencies if appropriate. An officer can do this on his or her own authority.
