New to this site and was hoping to get some opinions

First of all I am not seeking an answer to try and get out of any ticket at all. Just curious and a little unsure. My mother and I were driving back home from work, there are two stop signs that we have to go through before actually arriving home. Well this one day driving through our neighborhood heading home, we make our first stop, now behind us are two other cars. We make a right turn to our street and meet up with another stop sign, which again we did. The two cars behind us go to a connecting street on our street and as soon as my mother starts to get in position to enter our driveway the officer turns on his lights and parks behind us in our drive way. My question and perhaps doubt? is Why did he wait two stop signs and was two cars behind to actually make a move? He waits for us to make our second stop sign and sees us about to park when he turns on his lights...Thank you all very much.

What did he say when you asked him? (unless one of us here was THE officer who contacted you, there is NO way for us to know Why - for Anything)

Could have been given a call and he was waiting to see if he was NEEDED.

Could have been running your plates to see if you had any warrants etc.

Your car could have matched the description of a wanted person / stolen car.

If he thought he had a DUI , he wanted to follow you to build additional probable cause to stop you.

I can go on with other reasons.

Nearly every person I stop for running a stop sign says "I stopped" and those are the worse offenders (who just tap the brakes). I'm not saying that your mother failed to stop because I wasn't there. I have actually sat and counted the number of cars at a stop sign before. Out of 32 cars only 2 made a complete stop. The 33rd car blew the stop sign and was subsequently cited for it.

The legal version of STOP differs from what a lot of people do at stop signs. Bored sometime ? Go sit at a stop sign and watch.
