Just seeing how the department dealt with you. I had one almost four years ago and I am ready to apply to a department. Any advice would help I called the recruiter today and they just beat around the bush.
Thanks

We will hire someone with a conviction IF it was more than 5 years ago and it was a one time event. In the BI, they will definitely scrutinize the applicant's drinking habits more than normal.
If you still drink much at all, they probably will pass you by.

I apologize for my Ignorance to the subject and the acronyms used on the site. What does BI mean I see it used a lot. Does it make any difference that my case was nolle prose qui? I completed everything I was asked to by the courts and it has now been three years. I am planning to join the NYPD which is two year waitin list I hear, which makes this irrelevant but I would still like to know if you have an answer.
Thanks again
Background investigation.

Makes sense. Did you happen to read the rest of my post? Seeing if that made any difference?

Thanks, you have been very helpful.
I have not met an officer in my department that has been hired with a previous DUI conviction. There may be one floating around, but I'm guessing a DUI conviction can be a career killer.
I did have a person I knew from the military who used me as a reference when he applied to CHP with three prior DUI convictions. By the end of my phone call with the investigator we were both laughing. And no, he didn't get the job with CHP.
