    Juvenile Record Question. Can someone please help me?

    Hi my name is Tony Lopez. I live in the state of Texas.

    At the age of 16, I was arrested for possesion of a controlled substance (Adderall) in my High School. I was charged with a felony. I went to court but never saw the judge, I was instead given Deferred Adjucation. I completed my year of Probation and fulfilled my required community service hours in time. I am now 23 years old and have never again been in trouble with the law, other than a minor speeding ticket I got two years ago, but I completed a driving course to get that off my record. I am wanting to become a Police Officer in the state of Texas. Will my record as a minor prohibit me from joining the Police Department? Can someone please answer me question? Thanks!

    Were you certified as an adult and sentenced in District adult court, or adjudicated in juvenile court as having engaged in felony delinquent conduct?

    I went to a juvenile court but never even stepped into the actual court room. Our lawyer just told us in the lobby, he had spoken to the judge and since I had never been in trouble before I would be given a year of probation and community service hours.

    4) community supervision history:

    (A) has not ever been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order; but

    (B) the commission may approve the application of a person who received probation or court-ordered community supervision for a Class B misdemeanor at least five (5) years prior to application if an agency administrator sufficiently demonstrates in writing with supporting documentation that mitigating circumstances exist with the case and with the individual applying for licensure, and that the public interest would be served by reducing the waiting period;

    (5) is not currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction would be a bar to licensure;

    (6) conviction history:

    (A) has not ever been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years; but

    (B) the commission may approve the application of a person who was convicted for a Class B misdemeanor at least five (5) years prior to application if an agency administrator sufficiently demonstrates in writing with supporting documentation that mitigating circumstances exist with the case and with the individual applying for licensure, and that the public interest would be served by reducing the waiting period;

    (7) has never been convicted of any family violence offense;

    (8) is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle;

    The arrest will be an issue for sure, but there's a larger issue you're glossing over. One thing you didn't answer, and can expect to be asked if you try to become a cop (at the very least), is what were you doing with Adderall in your possession in the first place. The obvious answer would be using it to get high, and if so, how often did you abuse drugs (to include both prescriptions not prescribed to you or illegal street drugs)
