Do cops follow up on this sort of thing?

    Hey.
I don't really want to admit anything. But here's my story. I was at this high school party, I'm 16. I'd had some drinks, I was kind of um happy. Ppl were starting to leave anyway so I was outside, and a couple of cops arrived b/c of noise. They had gotten out of their cars and were trying to figure out what was going on and moving ppl on. One of my friends goes to me, u should dive across his car. I'm like.....OK! (AWESOME idea). So I take this run up, jumped (put way too much effort into jumping, big bruise from landing on the hood), flew (real gracefully) across the hood. Landed and just kept on running. The cop yelled at me - "come here". Yelled some more. Then he chased me - I looked back and realized he was. Then I panicked and ran faster (dumbdumbdumb). I was right near a corner so I took that. Cleared a fence and just kept going. Cop didn't clear the fence as well, and I was out of there. I think at least 1 other cop came to the area looking for me, but he was on the wrong street.
Now I feel REALLY bad. I know that was really stupid and I promise to never do it again. And I'm worried that I left a dent. And I'm really glad they didn't catch me, not to not be in trouble but b/c I don't want to know what happens when they get u!
So I have this big fear that if they have video they're going to take it to our school principal (it's really obvious what school we go to from where the party was) and say "who's this?" And he'll say, "that's JimBob, good runner and/or hurdler". (b4 I did this we'd been hanging in front of the car, right in front - do they all have cameras?)
Is that something that happens? Will they try and find me for doing that? What would happen then? I'm not really a bad guy. (drinking = ideas bad). And I didn't really mean to run, it was momentum and then panic. That's the best I can do at an excuse (I know, it's crap).

You won't like my answer..but..Yes most agencies have "dashcams" and require them ro be activated when on a "call" or "contact with public" so youre mug is probably on tape, then when you were "ordered" to stop and didnt, its called "resisting arrest", then if theres damage to the hood you have "damage to city property"...The best advice I can give you is go to the PD and ask to speak to a supervisor, tell them the truth and chances are they will go easy on you since you came to them before they had to come to you....

Option two....Give it a few days or weeks and a warrant for all the charges will be signed and youll be arrested at school and it will be too late to say " I wanted to come forward, sorry, etc."

Good luck and if I were you I would just come clean and see where it goes...

Sound like your S*#t out of luck. In Texas you would have been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention (class A misdemeanor) . If you damaged the hood of the car, it Would be Criminal Mischief. You should go turn yourself in if I were the cop you ran from, I would have more respect for you after you did that. Just remember, one day that cop might see you again and then your really up s*#t creek.

At 16 you should be able to write much better than that. Do not use that "text speech" here. Many will not read jush juvenile writing

If you damaged a police car, they will absolutely look for you.

It will be better for you to " find" them than for them to FIND you.

    Dread.

Ok. What does "chances are they will go easy on you" mean? Could this be fixed informally? Man, I'll wash all their cars. And I'd pay for damage if the hood got a dent. I'll be grounded for ever anyway so I'm going to be wanting as many hours at work as I can get just to get out of the house, so I can pay...
Could me going to them first be the difference between it being formal vs informal? Something formal wouldn't be so useful for the future (I know, so don't do stupid things). I want to join the Air Force. I know running from cops really really doesn't help that. I just...had a moment.

At least I have more grace than 1 person in the world.

I had the opposite problem, the car was lower than my perception told me...

And yeah, that guy got him (and then the rest). I am NOT doing this again.

So I bit the bullet and told my parents I did something stupid. They said, yeah, you're going to see them. Can anyone tell me what to expect, or have any tips?

I know that took guts to tell tour parents and "bite the bullet" so to speak but IT WAS the right and smart thing to do regardless of the outcome...No one here can tell you what will happen because WE ARE NOT the LEO you will be dealing with..I can only tell you some Officers take things personally and some don't...You may have ran from someone like me and IF it was my case and my car etc, and you came forward (assuming you have no juvenile record etc) if there was no damage to my car and you just hurt my ego by outrunning me I would most likely go easy on you.

But there may be damage (in that case it cant be as simple as "dont do it again"..OR you may have rubbed the wrong LEO the wrong way and get charged with every offense you committed.. I cant tell you what will happen, BUT I can tell you that YOU WILL BE RESPECTED FOR YOUR HONESTY AND BELEIVE IT OR NOT THATS A BIG DEAL IN OUR LINE OF WORK!

Good Luck, and I would like to hear the outcome if you feel like sharing it....

That's commendable that you told your parents.

If you came to me before I had to come for you, it would make all the difference in the world. As to the formal and informal question, with me it would be the difference of you washing cars and generally cleaning up around the station as opposed to charges being filed-formally.

There is a lesson here if you choose to learn it.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the 'good lucks'. Yeah my parents already said they'd rather hear about this from me. (and they said they're 'disappointed' - oooh that's worse than 'mad')

I know I wouldn't stay a secret for long anyway, everyone'll probably already know at school tomorrow. I already know at least 1 other video exists, luckily it's a friends - a real friend who listened when I was like, let's not put that on the web...
Apparently back at the party, after I caused that diversion, loads of people took the opportunity to just get out of the way, my friend didn't think anyone was left behind who could tell the cops right then who I was, but I don't know for sure, maybe they already know my name.

I really hope there was no damage...I dunno, it felt like a THUMP.

No, I don't have any juvenile record by the way. Now I'm more interested than ever in keeping it that way...

So the bad news is I left my mark on the hood. I'm guess I'm not that surprised. And I feel really bad about damaging a cop's car.

But the cop was pretty good about it all, and you guys tell the truth, he respected that I was taking responsibility. He said if I didn't dent his car, it could have been completely informal. But he has to refer it to this juvenile officer, which to be honest, sucks, but yeah, I did that to me. He said he was planning on going to look for me at school sometime this week - he already had this image off of the camera of me like looking straight at it (man, who's that idiot). And if he found me that way then I would have been in trouble for all the car, running, alcohol stuff. But since I owned up it's just going to be the car damage and he's going to recommend to the juvenile officer that the consequences are paying up and some hours washing cars. And then it gets dismissed. I think I would still have to tell an Air Force recruiter about it, the cop said, make it an isolated incident.

CPL1897 - From what you say, I think I got real lucky on the cop I did this too. He said to me "are you on the track team up there?" I said "yes sir" He said "good, otherwise you were going to be in trouble for not using your athletic abilities". He couldn't figure out how I managed such a smooth transition from sliding to running down the street, and he didn't want to know what kind of fence I can jump without a few drinks in me. lol. Well, no cop is going to see those abilities again unless they're at the track!

I'm glad I owned up. I was feeling pretty crap, at least now I'm forgiven.

That car did kick my *** back too. I have this bruise on my leg and butt, it's in such an irritating place and every time I sit down I'm like 'AWESOME idea'...

Thanks for the responses. I respect you guys for dealing with the dangerous people and situations out there...and the dumbasses inbetween (and I understand that I created a dangerous situation for that cop too).
