ASP Batons bending, I don't thinks so folks....

I have seen alot of talk on the net about officers having their ASP Batons bend when striking a suspect. I think they are refering to the air wieght ASP Batons, because no officer that I've ever known has had any problems with their regular type ASP batons bending or falling apart as reported by some folks on the net. When I train I use my ASP 26, inch electroless on an everlast 100 pound bag, and i have literaly beat the piss out of this baton, and it works and funtions just like the day I got it. I personaly think that Monadnock, and RCB batons, are just writing their own nasty reviews about ASP Batons, because ASP's are made of 4140 steel tubing from germany, versus the other brands out there that 4130, or even lesser stength tubing. I would be interested to here from other officers on here what they think of this topic of ASP's bending and so forth. I personaly will take my ASP any day, and I think the newer lever loc batons are even better.....Sincerely Jeremy571....

Unless ASP employs police officers to spread these "lies", as you call them, you're wrong.

There are numerous posts in the LEO-Verified section regarding ASP batons bending.

Did you consider that some of us have had them for a few years , that they got wet , etc ? Age and corrosion can take a toll on things.

I know first hand that the aluminum ASP bend after a strong sneeze. I've seen the steel bend but it's not as common as the aluminum ones. They're just tools, they aren't built to be indistructable.

My ASP bent. I was using it for two hand crowd control when it bent and would not close.

Guess he didn't get your first warning....
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Many collapsible batons will bend/break when striking things they aren't intended to strike. In training I broke two RCB batons hitting a man-sized dummy. One bent into a nice crescent and the other bent enough that the end section separated from the baton and flew across the room. It was eventually decided that the dummies were a bit to hard to be hitting with these batons.

An ASP is a much thinner baton than the RCB and although I've never used one at work, I can imagine they bend more easily than the thicker steel RCB would bend.

Remember- the intended purpose is hit flesh. I've used mine more for hitting other objects than hitting people.

Holy Gorillas Batman! You're a Beast! The RCB's you're talking about are the "new improved" versions of the old Wilmoth/Winchester batons, right? If so, what did the company say about the failures? (I call them failures because IMO, unless you were hitting Iron Man's suit, those batons Should be able to withstand striking any ordinary man-sized dummy)

I would be interested in knowing if the batons you broke were new or old, if there were any pre-failure indicators, what kind of strike you were using, and which part of the baton was impacting when it broke (and where it broke in relation to the impact area)...
