    Oral psych

    Hi,

I took exam 8051. I completed all the requirements, hoping to get accepted into the January 2012 class. I called the NYPD yesterday to find out where I stand. They told
me that my psych is still pending. I took the oral psych on October 29th, 2011. Shouldn't I have heard something by now? When I filled out the questionnaire, have I ever taken prescription medication given by a doctor. I said yes and the doctor faxed over my HIPPA records.

What do you think of my chances? I passed everything else. I always had a passion for law enforcement and I hope that they accept me into the next academy.

    Thanks

You should have heard today if you'd be in the Jan 2010 class.

One thing we here are NOT is psychologists. We can't tell you what your chances are in passing a psych test. Good luck.

Maybe someone from the NYPD can provide better information, but I know that due to their size they are inundated with a huge amount of applicants. When you have academy classes of 1000+, that's a lot of stuff to process. Were there other people from your testing group who got selected for the January academy? If not, they could be processing people from earlier tests first and purposely waiting until they're all processed before proceeding with the next group. Also, when you have issues with things like HIPAA and medical records, doctors can be slow to provide the required information. I know that we've had issues with applicant medical records and had to go back and forth with doctors offices several different times to get the correct paperwork. Just because you fax the release doesn't mean that the office is going to provide the correct paperwork or even provide any paperwork at all within a timely manner. Your background investigator should know for sure exactly what the holdup is.
