I am a 21 year old Montgomery County, Maryland resident. So, I have a Learner's permit. When I got it in August of 2010 (I know what you're thinking, but for some reason they gave me my permit for 2 years....no idea if it was a typo, oh well) the lamination wasn't exactly squared when it was put on and a little flap was hanging off the edge. Me being the careful person I try to be, I immediately placed the permit into the ID slot in my wallet when they handed the ID to me and I walked out. I didn't know about this little flap until a couple days later. That little flap has been a real pain in the you know what, twice I have had someone at a concert and a restaurant look at that flap and consider my ID to be counterfeit (I wished to purchase a beer or 2). My excuse "I sat down in linefor 2.5 hours at the MVA to get that card, I assure you it is not a fake" was seen as a joke and I was given my "fake" ID back. Should I go to the MVA and get the card renewed?
Second Part of this question. I live in a county where if the information presented on your ID is vertical, you will likely be denied service in a package store due to county government policy. I know it is the right of the store manager to choose whether or not to abide by this policy, but it is seeming to me that managers really are having less and less of a choice, the county is only getting more strict. I called the MVA hotline to ask how I can get around this little SNAFU I am finding myself to be in, and they are telling me that "It may be you have to just get your real license and not hold on to the permit".The use of the word "may" made me feel not so confident in their answer. Does anyone out there know what I can do? I feel there has to be some way to show these manager I am legally allowed to purchase......Thanks so much for the help.
