    Red face Disqualifying info

    Hello.....

I am getting ready to apply to the NJSP soon however, I have some questions that may help me decide If I am wasting my time.

    1. I was arrested 11 years ago for driving with a suspended license - went to court, saw the judge, paid the fine of $150

    2. I received a ticked in 2007 for an improper left turn, I received two points on my license after conviction, paid that fine of $20.

    3. Got involved in an accident in 2009” my quarter panel grazed the car in the next lane ", Officer detailed the accident as no fault” citing roadway debris” No ticket issued, no judgment.

    3. I tried marijuana when I was 19, never did it again.

I am 32, matured, married with 2 children moved to the top of my current workplace, and pride myself on ethics & due diligence and documented on my performace reviews.

Is there anything here you believe will disqualify me from moving forward in a selection process, especially the background investigation?

I sincerely appreciate your honest feedback.

Your biggest issue is that NJ is probably in the top-5 worst states to find an entry-level police job in the country. They're still laying off cops in that state.

I see no huge glaring issues. It will probably come down to your job history and what your bosses have to say about you.

Nothing abnormal there, but as G35 Mass said it is a tight market.

I don't know what kind of limitations you may have as far as moving to another state but I would check other states and apply for them also. It costs some money for travel but it may be worth your time and you may end up getting hired faster. I would still apply for NJ and don't see any major problems in your way.

What was your license suspended for?

It's a weird situation but my older brother used my name when driving a van, he was issued a ticket for unlicensed driver, and no seatbelt. This guy literally stole my license - benign to my knoweledge. I was actually at school when this ticket was issued - after everything was said and done - the judge informed me to square up my issue with DMV and monitor my license, she even said to me, and I will never forget " it is your responsibility to monitor my info against fraud - I did so and never had an issue after that. I know it's crazy. My intention is to explain this when I come up " if " I get to the background phase as I believe in honesty, no matter the situation.

If he stole your license and represented himself as you, how would he have been issued a ticket for unlicensed driver and how would that have suspended your license?

Ok - here is what I understand pre Rudy Guliani, if you were driving a vehicle withouth the correct class license, you would be issuesd a ticket, based on what the vehicle was registered under, it was private plates. Back in 1999, there were commuter vans available for transport, most were registered under "BUS" plates. And there were those who broke the law and ran their personal vans under regular private plates. In my case - it was the latter. I did not know this was happening, simPly because I was at school, I did not drive eveveryday, so I saw no reason to " at that time" to look for any inconsistency. The mail came midday - he checked the mail, removed the notices detailing past due infractions from the mailbox detailing any traffic violations that may have came. I never had any idea my license was suspended because of tickets, until that faithful day when I was pulled over

In NYC the living arrangements was him and myself for a year until it I was arrested - I moved out four months after graduation.

That makes a lot of sense. I don't see any police department holding that against you.
