The question is to general for a concise answer. There are many sites on the internet that can advise you on everything from clipping your shrubs around windows to complete video surveillance, weapons and safe rooms. Please look them up first and then if you have a particular question maybe we can help.
Many things depend on where you live, the crime rate, how long does it take for police to get to you etc.

Also, I don't think we have any officers from the United Arab Emirates on the board (which is where your IP is from). While some principles will remain the same, a lot of advice will depend on the specific laws of your area, and I know for sure that *I* know nothing about laws or Law Enforcement issues in the UAE, and I would bet that most of us here are the same.
