Somewhere, someplace and once upon a time.
A voice was heard to say from the back seat of a patrol unit on the way to jail.
"Hey, you listen to the same kind of rock and roll my dad does."
To which I would have loved to replied, Thats because I am old enough
to be your father, but thank GOD im not:smilielol5:
I was at my nieces graduation party last weekend and she went with me to pick-up a few of her friends to attend. All 17/18. I was listening to XM radio.....80's channel......I never felt so old in my life with what was coming out of their mouths about "my music." One kept reminding me she was not born until 7 years after the song came out. If I had a kid at 18.....I could be their father. So much for being the "cool uncle."

When I was in my early 40's, I was at a drug lab scene and the crime scene specialist showed up with a young female intern. I noticed her, but didn't pay much attention as I was up to my butt in alligators at the time.
The next day, I dropped by her office to see if they got any viable prints. The crime scene officer immediately started laughing and told me that "Jennifer" (or something like that) asked her on the way back if I was single. The officer told her that she didn't know, but it didn't matter, I was too old for her. "Jennifer" replied indignantly, "Not for me, for my MOM!" The crime scene officer enjoyed that just a little too much.:toetap05:
And talk about running headlong into a milestone!!!

Yesterday I made a traffic stop and the young men asked me, how long I'm on duty. I said "8 hrs daily, sometimes more!" and the kids asked how long I'm on duty. Than I realized that they wanted to know the time I'm in the force. And after my answer "this coming october it will be 32 years" they have been very, very silent. None of them was older than 21 yoa. And I felt very old :crying: :willy_nilly:

I think the biggest jolt I got was when I was investigating an officer involved shooting and realized that I'd been a cop longer than the officer had been alive......

That's the biggest one for me is to see a new hires birth date is after my hire date.
Kinda pathetic when I realize they learned everything they know in the same timespan that I learned "Friday is payday."

When I was in homicide, my partner and I were riding the elevator and a couple of young cops got on. They were all excited because they'd just busted some guy with an ounce of coke or something. My partner and I just stared at them and they calmed down. When we got off I told my partner, "We are now the old people we used to hold in contempt."

Are you smelling mothballs again Greg?
How do you separate their little legs without hurting the moth?
You should really start finding better hobbies.

Since when did the 80's rock that I grew up with become classic rock?
On a side note, I had a younger officer riding with me while he was having work done on his car. I found myself driving around remote area's tellling stories of what had happened at certain locations. I suddenly realized I had became one of them old bastards.
