50,000? You should see what they get in a 20 minute radius of cat_doc's neighborhood. They measure in tons and millions.

I live in a large county (1000+ square miles) and if I wanted to drive from one end to the other it would probably take about that.

uhhh nope. Just in the corridor where they trek the drugs up from mexico. Look up population of Florence and Pinal County. Tiny. Blink and you'll miss Florence. These are just the stories that made the news in the last 3 weeks. The last one is 1.5 tons of marijuana in a Jeep Cherokee. I wouldn't have thought that was possible given the car also apparently had 5 occupants. Cheech and Chong couldn't fit that much in a van. It doesn't include human smuggling that has resulted in many deaths this month.
Pinal County sheriff: $9 million in drugs from Mexico (http://www.azcentral.com/community/pinal/articles/2011/06/28/20110628arizona-florence-drug-seizure.html)
Man stopped near Eloy had nearly $350,000 worth of drugs in car, authorities say (http://www.azcentral.com/community/pinal/articles/2011/06/23/20110623arizona-drug-bust-man-arrested-eloy-abrk.html)
Pinal County deputies find $1.7 million in marijuana in vehicle (http://www.azcentral.com/community/pinal/articles/2011/06/13/20110613arizona-pinal-county-marijuana-bust.html)

the area where I grew up does not even show up on a Florida map!!, The area where the drugs was seized it's about 4 times that size, my driving time and your driving time is ALOT different I'm certain...you follow the rules I have a really bad habit of breaking them but I've gotten better.

It's true that opiates can cause deafness. And almost all domestic violenc is caused by the woman not doing what she's told so I think you may be on to something.
And the gratuitous DV joke:
Why did the woman have two black eyes?
She didn't listen the first time.
:) j/k

Lol! don't make me unleash the womanhood fury on you :toetap05:
side note: yes I knew that opiates caused deafness * only* b/c I learned it in school you should really consider going on jepoardy with all this random stuff you know :yesnod:
Back on topic: with all the funding seized from these stings I think the advancement in technology could almost become endless.... maybe I'm from the planet of the apes... but what if technology could create a DNA slide that you could enter into a tracking system, which would then play out like the game " your getting hot or your to cold"...think of all the missing kids that could be found , fugitives etc... I have just recently become addicted to the show " Tracking Bigfoot" ( geeky I know ) so it made think of this...anything is possible..esp with enough funds

I think they funnel the tangible assets back into law enforcement (i.e. cash, cars, houses, etc). But the press always publishes the "street value" of the drugs. In reality, I think it actually has negative value since the government now has to pay to destroy it.
If you really want to get creative, take the seized drugs back to the country of origin and resell them to undercut the growers price. Puts the growers out of business.
