Well its transfer time for me and I am still not sure if I am going to stay or get out of the military. The civilian job market sucks right now.

Has anyone been to Sugar Grove, WV or Fort Gordon, GA? Pensacola, FL and Suitland, Maryland are also possibilities....

What's your MOS/Service....?

My advice, stay in. Job market sucks right now. I've had a few of my Troops get out and they are looking to come back in after a few months out.

+1. If you're not a ground pounder that's going to see combat, I see no reason to get out for a while. You're making decent money, have health coverage, etc., I wouldn't be in a hurry to leave unless you have something solid lined up.

Fort Gordon is not terrible... or was not terrible back in the mid 90's. :) At least it is close to Atlanta. I didn't even know there was a base in WV... that could be a good one, actually. Then again, I have kinfolk there. :)

Why would you go to Ft. Gordon? I thought you were a sailor.:confused5:

I don't know which is more disturbing: being from West Virginia, or using the term "kinfolk" to describe relatives.

P.S. Please turn the banjo music off in my head.

The area around Sugar Grove is what my vision of heaven would be. Rolling hills, hardwood tree's, pasture land, "cricks", streams, an abundance of wild life, four distinct seasons, and NOT a gojillion people. Think "Green Acres". Very rural, which is my kind of place. City folk would probably lose their minds however.

The Augusta area is just......meh. Didn't do much for me. A lot of ghetto areas and ghetto culture. Wouldn't want to live there.

Suitland, being outside of D.C., will be inundated with maddening traffic, and will be expensive. Good place for those who like a "suburbanite" life style.

Pensacola is pretty congested. Decent enough place, especially if you like the water. The only thing I didn't like about living down there (Ft. Walton area) were the freaking hurricanes.

IMO, WV is the place to be if you like rural living.

If you are an urbanite and don't mind snow, go for MD.

If you are an urbanite and hate snow, love the water, and don't mind the occasional hurricane, go for FL.

If you are insane, go for Gordon. :biggrinjester:

I live here now, well, outside the city, but in the general area. I love it here so much I retired from the Marine Corps here and sunk roots! And no matter what JoetheGI says, the hurricanes aren't that bad.

PM me if you want to know more about the area.

Well advancement results hit the street today; it turns out the Navy has enough faith to promote me to Petty Officer First Class (E-6 for you non-navy folk). This makes it extremely difficult to get out of the service...Thanks guys for the suggestions and help.
