Officer David Crawford shot at least four times, police say (http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/region_south_pinellas/st_petersburg/officer-david-crawford-shot-at-least-four-times,-police-say)
Officer Crawford was 46 years old and had served with the St. Petersburg Police Department for 25 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
His killer was a 16 year old POS who shot him 4-5 times in the stomach. I don't know why but it pisses me off extra to know that the killer shot the officer when he was only facing juvenile punishment for whatever infraction he was committing. It pisses me off extra to know that officers would be extremely reluctant to shoot any 16 year old. It pisses me off to think that Officer Crawford may have died because his conscience made him hesitate when in reality his life is infinitely more valuable than this thugs' life. It's unfortunate that the shooter isn't eligible for the death penalty. I realize that all officers killed violently are done in by worthless POS but these kinds of acts really get to me. Maybe it's because I think of kids as the one group of people that officers universally go out of their way to help and protect and this is the ultimate form of betrayal.
rant off. I apologize if that took too much away from Officer Crawford and his family. His watch ended Monday, February 21, 2011. He won't be forgotten. He was the 9th officer from Florida to die in the line of duty in 2011. He was the third from St. Petersburg to die in 2011. Prior to 2011, the last line of duty death was 1980. Prayers to the officers in that department as they must be reeling from these deaths.
The viewing and funeral for Officer David Crawford will be held at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg at 1900 Gandy Blvd, St. Petersburg, Florida. The viewing is Monday, 2/28/11, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The memorial service begins Tuesday 3/1 morning at 11 a.m.
The Pinellas County PBA has come up with several ways people can make donations to the family;
*The Officer David Crawford Memorial Fund at your local bay area Wachovia Bank
*Sun Coast Law Enforcement Charities at 14141 46th St. N. Ste #1205, Clearwater, FL 33762. Credit card donations can be made by calling 727-532-1722
