Hi All,
I'm a documentary filmmaker based in Washington, DC. I work for a production house that provides documentary/reality TV series to such channels as Discovery, History, National Geographic and so forth.
I am looking for LEO's with family ties - parent-child, sibling, cousins, or departments that function almost like families - as subjects for potential new documentary TV series.
If any of you have ideas and suggestions for such subjects, or want to highlight the work of some of your colleagues, please let me know. Currently, we are more interested in good stories than geographical locations or particular LE organizations so this post is open to the entire LE community.
You can either post to this thread or send me a personal message. If you want more information about me prior to sending ideas, please don't hesitate to be in touch.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Isham
Isham,
As this thread has had over 30 views without a response yet, you may want to consider what is recommended in this sticky thread, which may help you get more relevant feedback: http://www.realpolice.net/forums/ask-cop-writers-questions-218/96913-friendly-advice-authors-screenwriters-seeking-technical-expertise.html
Not a requirement, just a suggestion.
Thanks Kimble.
The first thing I did upon signing up was make myself a supporting member of the site.
I know these sorts of requests have caused friction in the past and I know there's a good chance that many here on the forum will take a pass.
I've placed this request in the "writer's questions" sub-forum because I don't want this to clog the AAC forum anymore than it already is.
I would like to point out, however, that this is not technically a writer's question. I'm interested in LEO's in order to feature them in a reality/documentary series. These types of shows, of course, have their own problems and I know that many on this forum have mixed feelings towards them BUT the intention of most of the shows, at least the good ones, is to highlight the good work of LEO's.
Simply put, I'm looking to highlight the work and stories of LEO's that fit the bill mentioned above. I'll be doing more homework reaching out to a number of PAO's across the US in the next few days but I figured that I'd send this question out to you all as well to see if anyone here wanted to pass on any suggestions.
Thanks,
Isham

I think that's a good idea and likely the best avenue to have cooperation from agencies at the appropriate level to get you what you want. For example, I'm a fed and my grandfather was a fed, but I know for sure before I could do any formal participation in a documentary and speak on behalf of my agency I'd have to have the approval of my agency HQ (my grandfather is retired so it wouldn't be an issue for his former agency). By going through an agency's PAO you'll be addressing those in a position to gain any appropriate agency approval as well as insight on who in their agency would fit the needs of your documentary.

My agency has two brothers and a sister working. One brother is a detective, one is in patrol and their sister just moved to School Resource Officer and is a negotiator w/SWAT.
We also have a husband and wife as deputies and a sworn husband married to a dispatcher. I am sure there are more family connections, but those are just a few I know about.

My old department had one family consisting of father, two sons and one of the sons was married to another cop. We've had several marriages along with some divorces and remarrying other cops..... We had one brother/sister, but the sister died in that flight from NY to Paris that exploded just off the coast.
Several father/son, but usually the father retired soon after the son came on. One daughter, but her Dad retired just before she started.

I think the problem that you are going to find is that since we're all such trusting individuals we would give out personal information about ourselves, family, and department to someone over the internet.

As I posted some time ago, I got a call from someone from the Discovery Channel about doing a documentary on an old homicide case. But they contacted me initially and I was able to verify who they were.
Haven't heard anything back, BTW.

Since when did marriage stop casual sex?

Since when did marriage stop casual sex?
That could lead to a show all in itself!!
Ispbear,
I understand your concerns. If you've got some ideas but have reservations about who I am, please email me and I can provide you with more information. I've listed a number of shows I've worked on in my intro post and you know my first name. Just send me a pm and let me know what I can provide.
Thanks for all the input so far. At least a number of folks here have taken a look at the post.
Best,
Isham
