my name is ande and im a novelist. i was wondering if there was anyway i could get some information for a novel im writing. in my story a girl is found murdered and i need an account of the procedures used to collect evidence in order to find a suspect and to have it stand up in court. oh and later on in the book theres a detective who goes to the house of the victims mother to ask her a few questions. whats the procedure in entering a house where theres a possible crime happening. also who usually gets questioned about the victim besides family and what are some of the questions that might be asked.

That's too much to ask and the question is way too broad. Seriously, if you don't know any more than you do about police work, you should find another subject to write on.
I hope you write your novel better that you wrote that request, by the way.
Maybe go to a library and check out a book on police investigations.

Welcome to RP!
If you are coming here to get information (for free) for a "for profit" activity (like writing a novel) the least you could do is become a Supporting Member (http://www.realpolice.net/forums/restricted-areas-supporting-members-96/96880-supporting-member-leo-verification.html) of the site to contribute back in exchange for the requested info.
(The Admins are considering a proposal to make this idea mandatory, and I'm behind it.)
As to your questions, a murder investigation consists of examining the scene for evidence, interviewing witnesses, locating a suspect, making the arrest, and then attempting to obtain a confession. We are probably not going to discuss specific investigation tactics on an open forum.
Your question(s) are far too broad to accurately address. You seem to want a complete course on evidence law and the 4th Amendment as they relate to police procedure, and that's not really something that we can do on a website.

I like the idea of people using proper punctuation and decent sentence structure. It's not like I am an author or anything, though.

I don't see a bestseller coming down the road but I guess there is always hope :)

First of all i would like to point out that i didn't bother to write my question with exact puntuation and perfect sentence structure because i was just asking a freaking question. second of all i know enough about police procedure, i was just wanting it confirmed by a professional before i continue with what im working on. third, to those who were trying to repremand me for not being a paying member and having the audacity to ask for advice on something that i may or may not profit from; i never said i was going to try and have it published. it's just a hobby of mine and a personal goal to write a book of some kind. however, if i do have it published thats my business, i just didn't want someone reading it and thinking im a complete moron because i said something that wasn't a hundred percent correct. what if i were asking because i was writing a term paper for college in order to graduate, would you still demand that i pay for the site. are any of you even cops? i think my first mistake was going to this website in the first place. i'll just to talk to a real cop at the local police station.
thank you for all of your "help". :nonod:

Since this is your stance and it seems clear you have no intention of supporting our site when you're asking us to help you, seems that this thread serves no further purpose.
