Didn't want to post in the old thread. After reading through the old thread, I didn't see

"The Will to Survive" by Bobby Smith

I liked it quite a bit. He seems very sincere and forthright about what he went through (an on-duty shooting left him blind) and what subsequently he discovered about himself and LE. It's from 2005. Apparently he's also a great motivational speaker but that's based on his own accounts of seminars in the book. I've never heard him speak. He also wrote "Visions of Courage" but I haven't read that.

Have any LEO's read "The Will to Survive"?

Any new books since that thread got stale?

One Promise Kept Is by a officer from the South Portland police department. I really liked it and its right next to my city so it was pretty interesting.
I read No Boundaries: Transnational Latino Gangs and American Law Enforcement for a school project and really enjoyed it. Gave me some good stuff on the history of MS-13.
I read this, Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member out of curiosity. Found it pretty disturbing.
I found some great books in the other thread

I apologize for raising up an old thread, but I attended a seminar today in which the guest speaker was Dr. Bobby Smith.

A very dynamic speaker and tells it like it is.

A lot of laughter, quite a few "you could hear a pin drop" moments and some tears shed.

I could see a few young cops actually squirming a little in their seats when he spoke of the dangers of letting the job become your identity.

I would highly recommend his writings and even more so seeing him speak in person if you ever get the chance.

I rate him right up there at the top with Dr. Kevin Gilmartin.
