I would like to know the truth about whether the police test is actually "nepotism-proof." I have an acquaintance who swears that there is absolutely no nepotism or favortism for certain candidates when it comes to police hiring and the police academy. He claims this for NCPD, but I am interested in comments about SCPD also.

His claim is this: That they must hire strictly according to SCORE and that the people doing the hiring are not allowed to skip over anyone who has scored high and also passed the other things (physical, etc.) in favor of a candidate who is "connected." He also claims that instructors NEVER give anyone in the police academy unfair advantage over other candidates due to nepotism.

So I am hoping to find current NCPD and SCPD officers here ... real people who also were hired and went through the police academy. What do you think? Has hiring been done because of nepotism and, if so, what are the ways they get around the score on the civil service tests to boost the people they want to the top of the list?

Thank you for your help!

Its civil service....no room for any nepotism getting hired. Suffolk uses the lottery for slot openings. You can't get any further from nepotism than a random lottery.
