Well, it seems like there is the same good natured "ribbing" that we have in the Coast Guard. Of course there are people who will look for any reason to be offended, but they seem to get tired of complaining and move on fairly quickly.
As far as opinions go, a wise man once told me something about opinions...
I'll bet you can guess what it was... ;)

A woman goes to the doctor all black and blue ...
Doctor: "What happened?"
Woman: "Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk on Bud Light he beats me to a pulp."
Doctor: "I have a real good medicine for that. When your husband comes home drunk on Bud Light, just take a glass of sweet tea and start swishing it in your mouth but don't swallow.
Just keep swishing and swishing until he goes to bed in his Bud Light stupor."
Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.
Woman: "Doctor, that was a brilliant idea. Every time my husband came home drunk on Bud Light, I swished with sweet tea. I swished and swished ,and he didn't touch me!"
Doctor: "You see how much keeping your mouth shut helps?"

It's womens logic. I bet the conversation went something like this.
Wife: We need to get a gift for my parents anniversary Sunday.
Husband: Okay, whatever you want is fine.
Wife: And next Friday I need to clean out the basement.
Husband: Okay
---Fast forward to Friday ----
Wife: Everyone is coming over for the Childrens party at 9:00 am tomorrow.
H: What party?
W: The party I told you about last week. Why do you think I cleaned the basement?
H: But you never said anything about aparty.
W: We ALWAYS have the party the Saturday before my parents anniversary. Remember?
ASk a woman how old a cousin of their child is. The logic comes out in all it's glory. It's never
Man: 'Cousin Josh was born in 2002 so they are 8'.
Woman: My 'little Eddie went to first grade on the 9/11 attacks so that makes eddie six. And that was the year I bought him the purple sweater. He was so cute then. Josh was born when Eddie was on his first field trip in the spring of first grade. Eddie started high school this year so lets count. 1st, 2nd...Eleventy. Josh is Eleventy.

I purposely have my cell phone on silent all the time. I can close it and put it away faster than you can speed dial. Then it's not on purpose if I miss the call or the text message. I hate those instant tethers. I forget it a lot too. It's great too because they will leave a message and you can decide whether to return it immediately or forget it until you get home.
My work phone plays elevator music when you put people on hold. I never hang up anymore. Just put them on hold. In the middle of their speech they start hearing muzak. They don't know what to do. Do they wait? Hang up? Eventually they hang up but they can't complain because they hung up. Fun times.

I have too much pride to call back I would cut the phone cord or flush the cordless before I did that. it shows weakness or that the other person really got "under your skin". petty yes. but I figure it is a matter of respect ( what I mean if the other person is seriously being rude, not if you are giving them the what not on the phone then yes they have every right to hang up or to be placed on hold with horrendous elevator music :) ) if you can't talk to me then i'm not playing the game of chase. I HATE conflict and fights. but I guess that goes back to the above post if i have you on "silent treatment" I don't expect you to chase after me either , just leave me be until we both can find a solid ground, Tomorrow is always a new day.
