Hi, my explorer post has done fund raisers like car washes and stadium clean ups in the past, and I'm curious about what other explorer posts do. For us, the stadium clean up pays the best and is the easiest to organize and get done, but since we're past that opportunity over here for this year, I'm looking for other things we may be able to do.
Thanks!

Welcome to RP Pat,
Uniforms can cost alot of money and departments rarely have enough to support a post without support from the Explorers themselves. This topic has been thrown around a lot if you do a search.
A great way to get donations is to ask the local community for help. Set up change buckets at the local super market once or twice a year....

Thanks, Rlong. :)
Yeah, uniforms do get pretty expensive. Thankfully, we're a rather small post (15-20 members), and we don't need that many uniforms (not many probationaries get through the training). We have received several generous donations from local businesses and people in the last few years, which has helped significantly.
The department does not (and never has, to my knowledge) support our explorer program financially in the slightest. Additionally, I own more than half of my uniform, as do most of the other explorers, which cuts down on the post's expenses considerably.
I did search, but the results were so "all over the place" that I concluded that the search couldn't find anything specific to what I was searching for. I will try doing an advanced search with more specific terms...
Thanks!
A fireworks booth for the 4th of July usually brings in big bucks. I don't know what the deal is now, but a few years back the manufacturers used to give us fireworks for 1/2 of what we sold them for, so we had a 100% mark up.

We're currently planning a silent auction. Currently most of our funding comes from donations.
When I was an explorer we tried to sell candy bars, that didn't work so don't even try that. I would also find out if there are any baseball, soccer, softball tourneys around you, and if so, try to make a "snack stand" and that can typically make a decent amt of money. Fairs, you could set up a both to sell drinks/food. Also, see if those tourneys would like some security (as that is what you guys want to do anyways) and see if you can't set that up. Just a few thoughts. As for the stadium clean up, see if you can park cars for $5 an hour per person. If I think of anything else I will let you know.
