US boy returns from outreach visit to North Korea - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100819/ap_on_re_as/as_china_north_korea_visit_3)

How nice! American boy and his parents enjoy a nice trip up north, not canda but NORTH KOREA.
Not the smartest thing in the world, and I am sure he will be used for propaganda...like everything else in the North.

A quote from the article: "Lee, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, said the officials told him his proposed children's forest was dependent on North Korea first signing a peace treaty with the United States to formally end the war — a longstanding demand of Pyongyang's."

Ahhh, now THERE's some real pressure. At least more pressure than the current TOTUS (Teleprompter of the United States) is willing to use anywhere.

I really hope that kid was sat down before the trip and told the truth behind the conflict and isolation of the North Korean state. On Youtube there is a video of a documentary crew's trip into North Korea; it’s an eye opener of how far things are distorted for the populace in the country.

Let's see, I've got a thousand bucks riding on a great big NO to that one.

I would like to vacation here just as much as I want to vacation in Vietnam, Somalia, or the surrounding areas in both places.

To me there is no worse place on this earth than North Korea. Even worse than even the poorest, most corrupt places in Africa. When I was stationed in Hawaii with a flying squadron many years ago, we had a visit by a North Korean fighter pilot who had defected and was brought to my squadron because S. Korea was one of the areas we supported. We were used to getting reports about N. Korea, but what we heard the defector say straight from his mouth was shocking. For example, fighter pilots were considered the greatest of all state heroes in N. Korea, yet even as the most privileged in their society, they were alloted just a few bags of rice a year along with other small amounts of food that would make your jaw drop. They were starving to death then, and are starving to death now. Frankly, what goes on in that country is surreal.

The north koreans control everything when you enter the country, you have to give in cell phones and other personal belongings. They sometimes even have issues keeping up the electrical supply. But I still wouldn't judge them as a terrorist nation, after all I have not been there myself....

I spent a year in South Korea. The differences between the two countries is quite stark. SK's don't defect to the North , it's always the other way around. Why is that ?? !!!

Other than they have nuclear capability and are continually threatening everyone around them. And of course attacking and sinking S. Korean ships. Beyond that, they're just a peaceful government trying to get by in the world.

And considering they imprson, kill, rape, and disfigure their own citizens when someone disagree's with the government, plus doing the same to their family just because they are related.

Nope, nothing to do with terrorism.

I'm waiting for that here, especially if Cap & Trade passes.

Hell, I think some places already are experiencing it, periodically.

There are numerous nations I haven't been to, but I am not as naive as to believe they aren't terrorist nations because I haven't been there. Pretty arrogant, if you ask me. Then again, I don't have as much of a problem with my judgement or standards, apparently.

I read an article a while ago about North Korean diplomats and how they smuggle whatever they can to make money for the regime. I don't think you have to go there to know they are up to no good.

Interesting trend of sending ex President's there to get prisoners released.
