Police Officer Preparation & Law Enforcement Resource - Archive

Hey all,

I will be attending a POST full-time Academy in California (San Mateo) in about a month or so and I was just wondering if there is anything that you veteran officers or recent academy grads can recommend that I study to get ahead of the game? So far I've been continuing with my normal routine of intensive physical training (I compete in amateur Muay Thai competition).

This is going to be the start of a life changing event for me and so I don't simply want to pass and graduate... My aim is to be the best and graduate in the TOP of my class and ANY advice that you can pass along to me would be greatly appreciated!

Have you been hired by an agency or are you self-sponsoring?

Writing in all capitals with correct grammar and spelling.
Sitting in the Invisible Chair
How to use and Hide a lint roller
How not to smile
Gender Identification during Stress (yes sir, i mean maam)
Ironing military creases.
Running
Boot Spit Polish
Situps
Location Identification at night in Strange Neighborhood while running (coupled with giving descriptions of strangers pointing/laughing at you)
Taking Punch to the Face and still fight and never give up
Learning to keep Your Mouth Shut (Disclaimer: I failed this so I am not a cop)


They'll teach and forgive all that fancy book learning (and stuff like breathing after OC spray), but if you don't know the above stuff, they think punishment runs will help you learn. :)

Lol good call! I didn't think of any of the above at all. I can see how all of this, while important, could be easily overlooked.
