Look it up. Back in the early 60's their was a NYPD Detective how had enter a warehouse, in Queens, holding his flashlight under his gun hand. He got shot twice in the chest and died. The shooter said "even though it was dark he shot at the light knowing that the Detective would be holding it near his body." So back then NYPD start training it rookies to hold the flashlight away from their body at arms length. I was their, I was not the lucky officer to shot the guy who took the two shots.
