VIDEO: Surveillance Video Shows Bank Robbery Suspect's Bizarre Disguise - Video - WTAE Pittsburgh (http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/video/24382921/index.html)
SWISSVALE, Pa. --
A man was arrested Saturday after police said he robbed a Swissvale bank with a BB gun while dressed as a woman -- but still sporting his dark goatee.
"Probably should be one of America's dumbest criminals, I would guess," Swissvale police Chief Greg Geppert said with a chuckle.
Police said 48-year-old Dennis Hawkins, wearing a blonde wig and fake breasts, was on film stealing a BB gun at K-Mart in Edgewood Towne Center.
The North Braddock man then went to Citizens Bank on McCague Street, police said, where he handed over a note that said, "This is a hold up. Do not put no dry packs in no money because I will see your family and also your kids."
Hawkins pointed the air gun at the teller, who had no idea that it wasn't a real gun, Geppert said.
The teller put a dye pack inside the bag, which covered the cash with red dye.
Then, police responded to a call from a woman at a a nearby convenience store who said someone was trying to steal her car.
"He got into her car. She turned around and ran into the store and went behind their bulletproof glass in there, and then called police to say this person was trying to steal her car," Geppert said.
Police arrived and found Hawkins there. He denied stealing the gun as he was being taken away in handcuffs.
"The money that had the ink on it started falling out from underneath his shirt, the wig was protruding from his pants pocket, and they also recovered the gun, which was in his waistband," Geppert said.
Hawkins was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on $230,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
